Job Purpose : The Roving Teacher Trainer will lead capacity-building initiatives for teachers, educators, and education partners in crisis-affected areas to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. The role ensures the development, coordination, and implementation of teacher training programs aligned with Education in Emergencies (EiE) standards, national curricula, and Oxfam’s strategic priorities.

 

Working closely with local education authorities and humanitarian partners, the trainer will deliver tailored training, mentorship, and coaching to improve foundational literacy and numeracy instruction, child protection practices, and gender-responsive teaching methodologies. Additionally, the role will oversee training assessments, documentation, and monitoring of teacher performance, ensuring continuous professional development.

 

Operating in fragile and high-risk environments, the trainer will facilitate peer learning, adaptive teaching approaches, and innovative educational solutions to improve access to quality education. Through coordination, advocacy, and documentation, the trainer will contribute to strengthening education systems, promoting inclusion and safeguarding, and supporting teachers in delivering effective, context-appropriate learning experiences.

Key Areas of Responsibilities and Accountabilities

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Training and Capacity Building

  • Develop coordinate and deliver tailored training sessions to various stakeholders including teachers, Tutors, implementing partners, Oxfam staff, Trainers, Educators, among others.

 

  • Lead in the development and harmonization of training plans/strategies across all Education projects with the field-based education officers/teams and partners.

 

  • Develop, review, and adapt training modules/materials on range of topics including: FAL, Alternative education programs, TEPD, TiCC, Life skills among others, to align with national standard and Oxfam strategy.

 

  • Coordinate with relevant Education Departments/stakeholders to conduct in- school/interschool teachers’ CPD through coaching and mentorship, peer to peer support groups, teacher learning cycle approach, clinical support supervision, and any other relevant approaches.

 

  • Support teachers in developing and adapting low-cost, contextually appropriate learning materials.

 

B. Programme Implementation & Operations

  • Manage all administrative activities for training - planning and scheduling, conducting session, collecting feedback, ensuring consistency in delivery and completing post-activity administration.

 

  • Ensure timely reporting of training sessions, attendance, and outcomes to the Education Programme Manager.

 

  • Carry out spot checking on the progress of the partners in the implementation of the training programme, including contents.

 

  • Monitor the effectiveness of trainings through pre- and post-training assessments, classroom observations, and teacher feedback.

 

C. Coordination & Partnership Management

 

  • Liaise with education cluster partners, local education authorities, and humanitarian actors to align training with national and international standards.

 

  • Contribute to joint assessments, advocacy efforts, and coordination meetings to ensure harmonized teacher capacity-building interventions.

 

  • Engage with Education authorities and teacher training institutions to align Oxfam’s interventions with national teacher professional development frameworks.

 

  • Ensure Integration of cross -cutting issues and synergies in trainings. Including safeguarding, WASH, Gender and any other relevant sector

 

D. Documentation, Reporting & Learning

 

  • Develop case studies, best practices, and lessons learned to inform programme adaptation and donor reporting.

 

  • Develop and conduct regular training need analysis and help set priorities on the training needs/topics.

 

  • Develop tools and maintain comprehensive training records to track results and desired change, including Pre/Post Test for every training.

 

  • Contribute to internal and external reports, ensuring high-quality documentation of training impact.

 

  • Participate in internal learning and knowledge-sharing activities to strengthen Oxfam’s education programming.

 

  • Work with MEAL team to keep an UpToDate desired data base for teachers

 

E. Programme Development & Innovation

 

  • Support the design and development of new training curricula, tools, and resources that respond to evolving educational needs in crisis contexts.

 

  • Contribute to proposals, donor reports, and funding applications related to teacher training and capacity-building initiatives.

 

  • Integrate innovative methodologies and blended learning approaches into teacher training interventions.

 

  • Any other duties as necessary tasked in agreement with line and Matrix Manager

  • Understanding of and commitment to adhere to equity, diversity, gender, child safety and staff health and wellbeing principles

 

 

Required Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge

 

Essential:

 

  • A university degree in Education, Social Sciences, or any other relevant field.

 

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in EiE programming, with a strong background in working with sub-grants and partner organizations.

 

  • Proven experience in Education capacity building, technical support, and compliance monitoring of education programs.

 

  • Fluency in English – verbal and written (knowledge of local languages is an advantage).

 

  • Sensitivity to cultural and gender dynamics, with a commitment to equity and inclusion.

 

  • Proven field experience in emergency and fragile settings, with willingness to live and travel to high-risk areas at short notice.

 

  • Strong systematic and organized approach to work, with a deep understanding of effective planning, time management, and prioritization to meet deadlines under pressure.

 

  • Strong interpersonal skills

 

Desirable:

 

  • Demonstrated high-level conceptual and analytical thinking skills, with strategic programme development expertise in both formal and non-formal education programming.

 

  • Familiarity with synergy strategies, particularly with WASH, EFSL (Economic and Food Security & Livelihoods), Protection, and Gender programming.

 

  • Experience in training and capacity development of staff and partners, with a flexible and eager attitude to learn.

 

  • Innovative problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative and pragmatic solutions to complex challenges.
