Grants and Compliance Accountant

Background

At Oxfam in Ghana, we will tackle the root causes of social and economic inequalities and unaccountable power that violate human rights and drive poverty, injustice, and environmental destruction. We will achieve this by working together with people and partners to address the systemic barriers fueling inequality and poverty. Oxfam commits to acting as a safe, feminist and partner-led International NGO. We will work in contexts where we can have the greatest impact, channelling our resources to work in solidarity with allies and partners, to shape transformational programming and influencing at scale.

The Role

To be role is responsible and accountable for day-to-day management of all accounting, internal and external compliance requirements, as well as ensure timely preparation of donor reports, donor/Oxfam budgets for new projects/contracts, and support the financial management and reporting of Oxfam in Ghana Programme.

Reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely and collaboratively as a member of the Finance Team, within the wider business systems and operations team, with overall responsibility to provide professional finance, administrative, logistics and IT management service delivering proactive and people-centred solutions for resolving issues. This includes ensuring that the business services operational requirements are effectively managed to deliver organisational results, which are focused on developing capacity and expertise of partner organisations to enable Oxfam in Ghana deliver on the Country Strategy.

What we are looking for: 

We’re looking for a candidate who cares about Oxfam's mission to end poverty and is personally aligned to our feminist principles and values of empowerment, accountability and inclusion in all you do.

A dynamic and committed individual with the following:

  • Master’s degree in a related field is required (business administration, development sector financing, accounting, finance) or equivalent professional qualification ie Certified Chartered Accountancy and/or Management qualification is preferred.
  • Professional qualification in Accounting with background in finance and logistics, knowledge of Ghana Financial regulatory framework (Company ACT, tax, pension laws etc.), a strong track record in grants management and external audit. Membership with a recognised Professional Accountancy Body ie ICAG, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Minimum of 8 experience in a service organisation is preferred; Knowledge of the development sector financial management requirements; a good understanding of accounting standards and their application in financial reporting. A demonstrated record of achievement in Compliance and Grant management processes.
  • Ability to work and train people with differing levels of skills and cultural backgrounds.
  • Good teamwork, management and liaison skills.
  • A good understanding of the different donors grant management requirements and the regulatory framework in Ghana.
