The Role:

 

Oxfam Syria is looking for Gender Officer

who will provide support and leadership to ensure women’s rights and gender justice are at the heart of Oxfam’s humanitarian response and that Gender in Emergencies Standards are fully incorporated in designing, planning, and responding to the needs of men, women, boys and girls. S/he will inspire, mentor and support Syria programme staff to understand the different needs of women, men, boys and girls, promote safe programming, and have a long-term impact on women’s rights in a challenging context.

An ideal candidate for the role will also be / have:

In addition:

•    Advanced University/College qualification (minimum bachelor’s degree) preferably in Gender or development studies, social science, or related discipline)
•    Three years minimum experience in Gender, GBV, protection and social work.
•    Experience working with IDPs, and other vulnerable populations (refugees-returnees ) with INGOs/ INGOs 
•    Ability to communicate in English, write reports in English and consolidate the reports into formal English documentation, including translation of documents into either Arabic or English
•    Experience and an understanding of and experience of working in the humanitarian or development sector.
•    Experience working with an international organization (such as INGOs, UN agencies or the like). 
•    Experience in Training local actors in the region on gender equality,  
•    Demonstrating understanding and sensitivity to poverty, gender, and diversity issues
•    Demonstrated willingness and eagerness to work within organizational and operational procedures and ability to apply and implement.  
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with stakeholders, Donors, beneficiaries and targeted groups.
•    Commitment to a rights-based approach, gender equality and protection 
•    Ability to work in a multi-cultural team.
•    Willingness to work in insecure environments and a high level of adaptability and initiative.
•    Willingness and fitness to travel and stay in the field for sustained periods of time.
•    Proficient in the use of MS office applications
•    Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and gender issues, as well as the commitment to equal opportunities.
•    Ability to demonstrate an openness and willingness to learn about the application of gender and gender mainstreaming, women’s rights, feminist principles and diversity for all aspects of development work. 
•    Commitment to Oxfam’s safeguarding policies to ensure all people who encounter Oxfam are as safe as possible.
