Oxfam's Global Humanitarian Team is looking for a Gender Lead.

 

Do you have proven, substantial experience in large scale humanitarian responses including working with partners and different crisis contexts, including first phase?

 

Do you have proven experience of working as an advisor in gender in humanitarian / emergencies in a regional or global role?

 

Do you have good knowledge of women’s rights/gender equality issues in humanitarian settings, with strong analytical understanding of current global policy issues and actors and feminist principles and thinking?

The Role:

 

To lead and strengthen the quality of Oxfam’s humanitarian response so that it systematically integrates gender equality and a feminist approach. To lead on Oxfam’s positioning in the sector on Gender in Emergencies, including through influencing, knowledge management, learning and innovation. Support the GHT in embedding feminist principles in Oxfam’s humanitarian work.

 

Location:

 

This role can be located in a country where Oxfam has a presence, subject to Oxfam’s ability to employ in that location, the affordability of doing so and right to work requirements being met. Follow this link to see where we work as a guide to where Oxfam may have the ability to establish a contract of employment. Due to legal constraints, it is not currently possible for this role to be based in some Oxfam locations. These include, but are not limited to, Brazil, France, Italy and Sweden.

What we are looking for:

 

We’re looking for a candidate who cares about Oxfam's mission to end poverty and is personally aligned to our feminist principles and values of empowerment, accountability and inclusion in all you do.

 

An ideal candidate for the role will also be / have:

 

  • Proven, substantial experience in large scale humanitarian responses including working with partners and different crisis contexts, including first phase. 
  • Gender background. Knowledge of women’s rights/gender equality issues in humanitarian settings, with strong analytical understanding of current global policy issues and actors and feminist principles and thinking.
  • Substantial experience in the development and implementation of gender particularly in humanitarian responses, covering conflict, climate-driven and complex emergencies, as well as natural disaster crises. 
  • Proven experience of work as advisor in gender in humanitarian/ emergencies at a regional or global role
  • Ability to scan the environment, anticipate changes, be comfortable with ambiguity and deal with a large number of elements interacting in diverse and unpredictable ways.
  • Experience of actively engaging with other major organisations in the Gender community and ensuring other technical staff are raising gender in their sectoral coordination.
