The Role:

Oxfam has been working in South Sudan since 1983. Our Programmatic Strategy concentrates on saving lives, Resilient Livelihoods, Advancing Gender Justice and Good Governance and Active Citizenship through a full spectrum platform that includes humanitarian response, recovery and resilience, long term development and policy and advocacy. Oxfam currently operates via seven area field offices in South Sudan. (It also works in partnership with several national organisations and community groups.

 

Oxfam {affiliate/} is looking for Gender and Protection Assistant 

 

What we are looking for:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the delivery of community-based gender and protection activities as directed by the Project Officer.
  • Lead in organizing and facilitating community dialogues, awareness sessions, and grassroots training on gender justice and protection.
  • Participate in the implementation of projects focused on women’s economic empowerment, literacy, and social participation at the field level.
  • Contribute to protection analysis and context monitoring by collecting field-level data and community feedback.
  • Assist in conducting safety audits and protection risk assessments to identify and report risks to women and girls within project sites.
  • Support the integration of safe programming by ensuring WASH and Food Security activities follow established protection checklists.
  • Help maintain up-to-date protection referral information and ensure all data is handled according to organizational SOPs and strict confidentiality standards.
  • Support the Project Manager in working with local partners, community volunteers, and local protection structures to coordinate daily tasks.
  • Support local-level coordination meetings or sub-cluster working groups
  • Collaborate with MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) teams during baseline surveys and post-distribution monitoring.
  • Assist in the delivery of tailored training sessions for community volunteers and local protection committees.
  • Help collect human-interest stories and field data that contribute to the development of advocacy materials and gender-based messaging
  • Actively adhere to Oxfam’s principles, specifically feminist principles and the protection of women's rights, in all interactions with beneficiaries and staff.
